On the banks of the Mood River sits two towns. From one side springs the bright, light Municipality of Joviality and on the other side, slowly sinking into the slime, is the city of Forlorn. These towns, of course, make up Mood Valley. One day, when the saddest girl in all of Forlorn is swept away on an adventure with her little brother, the two discover a terrifying, stupefying, happifying truth: they can change their moods.
This is a book that teaches children and adults how to manage their moods! It is meant to entertain and teach (at the same time) some of the basic concepts of Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Throughout this book, the reader will learn coping skills based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy. These coping skills have been shown in research to be effective for improving a person's mood. It is the story of how the Mood Squad learns to fight off sadness and spread happiness.
We have written many versions of this story over the years, but this Spring we are excited to share the definitive edition. Please contact us through the website for inquiries.

or download to your deviceWhat a delightful book! I got started and couldn't stop. Great project! I had my ten year old granddaughter read the book. She also couldn't stop and completed it in one sitting. She said that it was fun to read and she thought some of the ideas to stay happy could be helpful for her. Let us know when it is in print. I will put it under the Christmas tree.

I loved this book because it brings the core CBT concepts to life in an entertaining way. The plot is engaging and the jokes are funny enough to keep you reading. There's a lot of age appropriate terminology throughout (turning cognitive distortions into thinking traps such as "binoculars thinking", "me me thinking" etc.) and I think this book will serve as an excellent supplement for the kids I work with. It's so hard to find age appropriate literature that brings the CBT approach down to a children's level and I think this book does just that. Highly recommend!

Your day depends a lot on you.
Your day depends on what you do.
Will it be great or will it stink?
That depends on what you think.
What you think and what you do,
that depends a lot on you!
